About the Event

Join us for the unveiling of our Little Free Diverse Library in Rochester - Part 2

We can't wait to celebrate diversity with you (again!) The book banners asked and we delivered; a LFDL on PRIVATE property graciously donated by the Rochester Women's Club.

Guest speaker Elliot Talley will join us.

Elliott Talley is a Junior and student leader at New Bedford High School. He was first inspired to  advocate for people in the 2nd grade, when his dad took him to Boston to rally for an increase to the minimum wage.

Through his involvement with the Coalition for Social Justice he has participated in campaigns supporting the Fair Share Amendment and the election of Bristol County Sheriff Paul Heroux. At school he is the chair of the Student Advisory Council, which grants him a seat as the student member of the New Bedford School Committee. He has used his seat to elevate student voice in New Bedford, especially when it comes to the school department budget. He also advocates for students statewide.

As the Deputy Director of Legislative Affairs at the Massachusetts Association of Student Representatives, he has assisted in writing and lobbying for legislation centered around student achievement. This includes expanding access to financial literacy courses and making it harder to ban books in our public schools. He continues this work as the co-chair of the Massachusetts Southeastern Regional Student Advisory Council where an ad-hoc committee to support protecting access to library materials was established.

We will also celebrate the significant contributions to Mattapoisett's local history by Abraham Skidmore. April 27th would have been Abraham's 146th birthday. Birthday cake will be served.
